Bogota, Colombia-headquartered Astrike Drone Services – a partner of Akron, Ohio-based unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) manufacturer Event 38 – has been approved by the Colombia Civil Aeronautics Board for commercial drone flights throughout the country.
Event 38 says it has customers in 49 countries. Astrike offers the UAV manufacturer’s flagship E384 drone and custom optical sensors to clients in Colombia.
The E384 drone has a two-hour flight time, carries a 1 kg payload and can cover a distance of 70 km. Combined with an Event 38 custom optical sensor, the E384 can fly 1,000 acres in a single flight and provide detailed imaging at a 2-cm level.
Jose Castiblanco, founder and director of Astrike, says its first authorized flight took place on Dec. 22. Using an E384, the company was able to map difficult terrain near Medellin.
“The E384 is particularly well suited for our inspection, environmental assessments, cartography and photography services,” says Castiblanco. “We are very proud to be the first company to receive official government approval to fly drones in Colombia and thankful for all of the support, patience and friendship that the people at Event 38 provided to help us achieve the goal.”
Jeff Taylor, CEO of Event 38, adds, “We developed a great working relationship with Astrike and congratulate Jose for this important milestone. South America is a key market for us, and having a local presence in Colombia makes it far easier for Astrike’s clients to access our products.”
