Properties Destroyed during 7.8 Earthquake in Bahia de Caraquez, Ecuador

The April 16, 2016 M 7.8 earthquake, offshore of the west coast of northern Ecuador, occurred as the result of shallow thrust faulting on or near the plate boundary between the Nazca and Pacific plates. The quake drastically changed the landscape, crushed buildings, and almost everyone and everything inside. As of today, casualties have reached to over 650 with at least 12,500 people injured. Ecuador estimates there has been about $2billion worth in damages to the country, but this does not include the impact on tourism as well as disease and death in the wake of the earthquake.
